Approaching the Supreme Court of India is unlike any other legal experience. The stakes are higher, the procedures more complex, and the expectations from both clients and judges are extraordinary. My recent journey with an Advocate-on-Record (AOR) in the Supreme Court showed me just how crucial their role is in ensuring justice is not only pursued but also presented with perfection.
Why I Needed an AOR
After years of battling in the lower courts, my matter reached a stage where the only option left was the apex court. But I quickly discovered that not every advocate is permitted to file or argue there—only an AOR has that right. This unique qualification made me seek out one of the most reputed AORs in Delhi.
The First Meeting
The first consultation itself was eye-opening:
-
They explained whether my case had merit to even be admitted.
-
I was guided on the difference between an SLP (Special Leave Petition), appeal, or writ.
-
I got a realistic picture of timelines, costs, and expectations.
There were no false promises. Just professionalism, clarity, and a plan of action.
Drafting and Filing
If there is one thing the Supreme Court values, it is precision. My AOR ensured that:
-
The petition was drafted with clarity, citing precedents that directly supported my matter.
-
Every annexure was attached, numbered, and cross-referenced.
-
Procedural checks were completed so that the Registry would not raise objections.
-
Deadlines were met without me having to stress about follow-ups.
I realized here that an AOR is not just a lawyer—they are also a meticulous manager of details, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.
Courtroom Coordination
When the matter was listed, my AOR worked seamlessly with a senior advocate who argued before the bench. But the AOR’s role was equally important:
-
Preparing the senior with a flawless brief.
-
Keeping track of court orders, dates, and objections.
-
Answering clarifications raised by the bench.
It was teamwork at its finest, with my AOR acting as the backbone of the case.
The Outcome
My petition was admitted, and eventually, we won. But even if the result had been different, I would still have valued the transparency, dedication, and professionalism my AOR displayed. They made the daunting journey to the Supreme Court feel structured and achievable.
